Sheikh Habibu's Speech at The End of Unity Week in Kaduna
“Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky had been an epitome of Muslim unity right from his school days in Kano, this I witnessed”. These were the words of Sheikh Habibu Umar Tanimu an Islamic scholar in Kabala Costain, Kaduna during the close of Unity Week organized by the Kaduna Zone of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.
Sheikh Habibu Umar Tanimu, who was enumerating the significance of Muslim unity in view of the current challenges said, “In the early 70s, I was among students of the School of Arabic Studies, Kano, and among our seniors on whose custody we operated was a young brilliant student. That young man was the head of the students’ union from Kaduna State, and held a high position at the national level. His brilliant posture surpassed his mates and his class level, that he passed the Grad Two and other examinations with flying colors, in an unprecedented manner, even when the Grade Two examination was being marked from London then. That young brilliant student was listened to, was turned to with all problems, and his constant attitude had always been unity among students. That young student was no other today than Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky”.
He further said, he was a living witness of the efforts of Sheikh Zakzaky in uniting Muslims during his school days that he frequented Muslim scholars individually and collectively. He described the introduction of Unity Week by the Islamic Movement under Sheikh Zakzaky as a welcome development that other Islamic scholars should copy.
Sheikh Habibu Umar Tanimu said, timing of the Unity Week to coincide with Maulud celebration was appropriate, saying there is no better time to celebrate than the birthday of the Holy Prophet (S).
