Islamic Movement marks the demise of the Holy Prophet(S) at Husainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria.
28th of Safar is the day for commemoration of the demise or martyrdom of the holy Prophet Muhammad Bn Abdullahi (sallallah alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam).
The martyrdom of the Prophet on this day is commemorated worldwide by the Followers of Ahlulbayt (AS). The Islamic Movement in Nigeria commemorated the day at Husainiyyah Baqiyyatullah, Zaria on 31 of Dec. 2013, a programme attended by thousands from far and near.
In his speech Sheikh Zakzaky(H) explained that the Prophet departed this world in Safar 11AH, which sparked great sorrow to the Ummah and brought to the end of revelation. He further said that 28th of Safar is also martyrdom of Imam Hasan Almujtaba(AS) 50 AH, according to a report.
He spoke on the sufferings of the holy Prophet(AS) whose martyrdom gave way for those eager, within and outside Islam, to accomplish their aim- the aim they could not achieve while he was alive. The aim was to do with leadership having the Prophet declared Ali as his successor contrary to thier wish. Those who opposed the declaration were scheming to prevent it from happening.
The sufferings and trials of the Prophet were the greatest being the last and greatest of all the Messengers of Allah. The Prophet also perceived a danger facing the Ummah on his mission as some people around him were waiting for an opportunity upon his departure from this world; this could plunge the Ummah into serious problems.
However, in oder to save the Ummah from such a trial and tribulations the Prophet formed an army with the inclusion of all the people who could be problem under the commander-ship of Usamah bn Zaid. At first, they refused to go, but they later obeyed when the Prophet said ' may the curse of Allah be upon those who refused to follow Usamah"
Seeing his worsening health condition, those sent under Usamah hang around the city of Madina and installed a spy to report them on the health condition of the Prophet. They returned to the city upon hearing about the Prophet’s worsening health condition.
On his sick bed, the Prophet saw them, so he ordered for a paper and ink to write for the Ummah what if it stick to would never go astray. However, one of the person around denied the paper and ink to be brought saying ‘book of Allah suffices us’ . this divided the Ummah into two as they quarelled among themselves, then the Prophet ordered them to disperse.
The word spoken to Prophet is a serious word which means an insult, though, some people tried to give it different meanings in order to cover the person who uttered it.
However, Allah has already cleared the Prophet of all indecencies and bad manners in the holy Qur’an: ’for the favour of God upon you, you are not an insane’ ; ‘he (the Prophet) does not speak of his own desires’; 'you are indeed on the best of manner' .
Ibn Abbas called the day the Prophet was rebuked as the ‘day of sadness’ .which was Thursday- the event which, up to date, divides the Ummah into two: those who are with the order of the Prophet and those who are with the order of the person who rebuked the prophet.
The Issue of Will.
Majority of Muslims thought the Prophet did not leave behind a Will regarding his successors. They are of the view that he didn’t appoint his Successor, thus supporting the selection of a leader by Shurah! Alas, it would be unbecoming for the Prophet to leave the Ummah he established for 23 years without a guide after him; It will not be accepted for the Prophet who taught the Ummah everything, small or big, like entering a house without and seeking the permission of its inhabitants. He even taught the Ummah the adab of sleeping and eating and as such he could not leave the Ummah to itself.
So, it will be impossible for a Prophet to omit an important and necessary matter in Islam which is to do with the leadership and guide of his Ummah after him.
Though, for the fact the even the opponents of Ahlulbayt knew about the Will of the Prophet regarding his successors , the opponents said the Prophet made 3 Will, two are know while is forgotten. The forgotten one is to do with Will regarding his successor.
Which is ever the case; the Prophet had left a Will. Even ordinary person is expected to leave a will when he or she senses departing the world; especially when participating in a thing like holy war. The Will is a necessary under this condition, while its recommended in other situations.
The Prophet, being informed that his departure coming nearer, left a Will- the Will he mentioned at different times prior to his sickness.
Various reports were fabricated against this; one of the reports is ascribed to one of his wives. Like a report which says ’ when one of the wives was asked weather the Prophet left a Will regarding his successor, she queried ‘ to whom she left the will, after all, he passed on in my lap’. Meaning he didn’t leave a Will according to her. There are many contradictions in some of the reports.
The Will of the Prophet close to his death
The Prophet left a Will on issues of his successor. He left Will regarding who will shoulder the responsibility in paying his debts; who will lead his spiritual birth and funeral. He appointed Ali to undertake all this in addition to leading the Ummah after him. The Prophet even handed over to Ali many athar like his ring, staff , flag, sword, abriqah (something like a belt), cloth which he wore during his ascension to Heaven, caps, shoes and turban (sahab).
Others are his horse (Junah, Haizun,) and donkey. The Prophet handed over all these to Imam Ali so that there would not be confusion and dragging after him.
All other contrary reports were either done to distort issues regarding succesorship or to cover some individuals.
During the Prophet demise none was with the him except Ali, Fatimah and Hasanaini(SA). Imam Ali undertook his funeral with six others. Later the Imam led other people in group of ten. Imam Ali and some members of Ahlubayt took the spiritual bath and he put the holy body in the grave. All other reports regarding his funeral and putting in their grave are unfounded.
Departure of the Prophet was a great calamity for the Ummah especially the Ahlulbayt for the fact that his Will was not followed; the translation of the Qur’an has been distorted; his families were maltreated etc.
