A. B. U. Students under Threat from Security Service(SS)
Members of Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (AFIMN) in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria are experiencing threat from Security Service (SS).
Despite the right of free practice of religion granted by the school management, the peaceful members of the AFIMN are been deprived of this right. They were even beaten twice on a struggle to pray in a mosque that was granted to them by the university managemenr, first; by the Salafiyya clerics in Sulaiman Umar hostel and the second was shamefully by the university securities in Institute of Education mosque that lead to injury on the peaceful members of the AFIMN.
But, the school authority still keeps mute concerning this deprivation, everyone is given a due right to practice his religion freely but the case is not the same to the members of AFIMN. Even a mosque to conduct a 10-30 minutes prayer is a challenge, they are not allowed to place articles on notice boards, MSSN are given the right to insult us in public during their lectures and too numerous to mention. Despite the stipulation of the following clause in the laws governing the establishment and function of the University.
"Students should be admitted (into this university) from the catchment's areas, the entire country and the world in general and be trained without any discrimination on grounds of race, sex, religion or Creed". We humbly ask that who really are the students that are referred to in the above clause? Is AFIMN and it's members not among the students referred to in the above clause?
On Sunday, 6th March, 2016, one security man arrested our brother in front of Sulaiman hostel for no crime whatsoever. The brother is trying to place an article concerning the recent Zaria Massacre. This is not a crime as we are also students who deserve our religious right. Why they did not arrest those who place that of MSSN, AMS, PAMS, AHMS, FCS, BSC and the rest?
On tuesday, the 8th of March, 2016, the securities met us during our du'a and demand that they will take some of us and go with them for investigation. And we did not agree, we demand that let them fix a date so that we can meet and talk about the issue.
The chief security officer of the University declared it boldly yesterday the 9th of March, 2016 that " Islamic Movement is completely banned in Nigeria, so, on no account whatever you can conduct any activity in this university" This include even our peaceful weekly tuesdays/thursdays du'as. He added that "If you dare conduct even that your du'a, we will allow other external forces to come and take you away, as anything regarding IMN and it's members is no longer under our control; but of course that of Security Service (SS) and we will allow them to handle the case"
Our prior question is Who are these SS that the chief security is referring to? Who are these faceless individuals that are trying to create a religious violence in A.B.U?
We are once again declaring it to the public that our peaceful activity will continue and any condition creating disharmony is never from us. The students in the institution know us very well, our activities are neither disharmonious to the peaceful living of the institution nor are they threatening to the life of anyone.
"They plan, Allah plans, and Allah is the best of planners"
